About This Project:
Per Riverkids – “When we first piloted the computer class, it was super popular with kids as they loved getting a chance to use a computer. As the class got crowded and became more playtime than learning, we recruited more volunteers to manage it. However, as volunteers were only avaiable part time and we didn’t have trained staff, we stopped the class temporarily to work out a long-term plan with a brand new curriculum and structure. This free class now teaches the basic use of computers, typing, Microsoft office skills and helps with school projects for our students in higher grades. We recruited a pernament IT staff whose tasks includes conducting the classes in the morning and afternoon from Mondays to Fridays.
About This Organization: Riverkids
Per Riverkids – “In late 2001, the Cambodian-born adopted daughter of a Singapore family told her new parents how she had been trafficked. Other children she had been with were soon found, and the family began building stronger ties within their communities. From these roots, Riverkids soon began and started its first site, Alexandra, in 2005, followed by Blum and Railway 2, and the fourth site, Kilomet 6 in September 2010. We prevent child trafficking and exploitation by providing education, training, health, social work, and income generation programs such as Financial Management and weekly boarding. Our beneficiaries are infants and toddlers, children and teens, sex workers, HIV positive families, and business women.
